Staff Engineer

Location

Northern California

Description

As a Staff Engineer with Slate, you’ll be joining a world-class group of engineers, geologists, and earthquake scientists with one primary guiding principle: Do Good Work.

So, what kind of work is that exactly? Our work is heavily focused on providing earthquake engineering solutions to a diverse list of clients and projects.

Our Staff Engineers get exposure to, and experience working on, geotechnical-based engineering problems including: slope stability evaluations, earthquake hazard (PSHA and DSHA), seismic site response analysis, consolidation settlement calculations, liquefaction triggering and hazard evaluations, foundation design support (both shallow and deep foundation elements), lateral earth pressure calculations, and groundwater seepage evaluations.

You’ll likely get some exposure to that, and more, in just one year with Slate, too. Field assignments include subsurface investigations, construction observation of earthwork and foundation components, visual inspections, and instrument readings. Office assignments include: engineering calculations/evaluations, analysis of laboratory test data, report preparation. Sure, it’s early in your career, but that doesn’t mean you should get stuck doing that one menial project task for months on end just because you’re “the new kid.”
